(Intermediate) Proverbs in the Imperative

1. Don't cry over spilt milk.



2. Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today.

3. Do as you would be done by.

4. Don't count your chickens before they are hatched.



5. Don't cross your bridges before you come to them.


6. Never say die.

7. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.



8. If at first you don't succeed, try try again.

9. Look before you leap.


10. Take care of the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves.


Imperative Verbs


Imperative verbs are also known as ‘bossy verbs’- they tell people what to do! e.g. close the door; empty the bin; eat your dinner!

Look at the sentences below; and think of some imperative verbs that you could put at the beginning in order to make an instruction.
