(Advanced) Eye Trouble

I use the beginning of this film to teach narrative tenses. Ordinary people are asked to tell a quick anecdote about how they injured their eye/s. They speak in a particularly ordinary, typically American way. Their stories are all quite weird and wonderful. The rest of the film is a very energetic and entertaining monologue by one of the USA's most eloquent performing artists. You'll either love it or hate it.

EYE TROUBLE – stories about eye injuries

Listen carefully to each story – stop after number 6 -  number the words in the order you hear them.

Task - writing

Spend 10-15 minutes writing about a time you injured yourself. Make sure you set the scene and provide context during the main events. Mention how you felt at different points. Describe the strongest images in your mind in detail.

Now share your own gruesome stories about injuring yourself!
