(Music) Orchestration

The word orchestra comes from the actual space in which an orchestra plays; the Greek orkhestra means "a space where a chorus of dancers performs," from orkheisthai, "to dance."

Karl Steven is a local genius who went to the same school as I did. In this extremely informative and enjoyable four-part series Karl explores the four families of orchestral instruments: brass, percussion, woodwind, and strings. Along the way we find out about how they work, their unusual past, and meet some of the players who devote their lives to them.

(NZ Culture) Mū tōrere

Image result for Mū tōrere

Each player controls four counters, or perepere, which are initially placed on the board at the kewai. At the beginning of the game the pūtahi is empty. (See illustration.)

Players move one of their counters per turn to an empty point. Players can move only to an adjacent kewai, and can move to the pūtahi only when the moved counter is adjacent to an opponent's counter.

The player who blocks all the opponent's counters from moving is the winner.
