C1.2 Unit 2: Advertising




Overall aims for the week

Develop range and confidence in interpretive discussion and opinion exchange.

Try to ask each other and me lots of questions, challenge each other to justify and explain your opinions and reactions.

By discussing and analysing the underlying messages of adverts we are learning understand better the context in which communication (in english) happens. 
















Project

Write a minimum four-paragraph evaluation of an advertisement that describes, analyses, interprets and judges it.


















Vocabulary

The key vocab this week is in the reading on p 18 (Marketing for Small Business) and a reading/listening about the (Clever Tricks of Advertising)

















Grammar

Two things: Modal verbs (for advice) and uses of who, whose and whom


















Why Advertising?

Advertising reflects our cultures in a really revealing way. For learning a language there's no better topic to help you see that language in a larger social and cultural context.
